Gota Embroidery-(The Pride of Rajasthan)

Gota work is a form of court embroidery. This style of embroidery started with the Mughals and spread to the various states like Rajasthan especially Jaipur and Jodhpur. Gota work is a type of metallic embroidery along with the technique of appliqué work. Initially, real Gold and Silver threads were used to manufacture Gota. Later on the use of copper thread coated with other material was used as per requirement which made the use of Gota work more economical. Off late copper was replaced by synthetic thread (polyester) in manufacturing of Gota which enabled it to be manufactured in any color or combination of colors.

Mainly the work of Gota was done on pure Georgette, Chiffon, Velvet & Silk whereas as in recent years synthetic fabrics are used for the productionThe base fabric is stretched on wooden frame by help of cords. It is adjusted according to size of base fabrics. At a time 5 to 7 artisans work on wooden frame. The design is traced by the paper on the base fabrics. Chalk powder is used for spreading the design on the base fabrics. Gota Patti is cut according to motif. The design and motifs are inspired by nature like birds (peacock, parrot, sparrow), human figure, animals (elephant, horse).
